Findings
Multiple small diverticuli are seen arising from sigmoid and descending colon. Diffuse thickening of sigmoid colon is seen, predominantly involving lateral wall. There is associated localised fluid collection with irregular enhancing wall in left iliac fossa, closely abutting the Sigmoid colon. It contains few subcentimeter-sized air bubbles. Mild inflammatory stranding of surrounding pericolonic fat is present. These findings are suggestive of acute sigmoid diverticulitis with pericolonic abscess. No evidence of free extraluminal air in peritoneal cavity to suggest bowel perforation at present. Rest of the visible distended parts of the bowel loops show no obvious mass lesions or wall thickening. Appendix appears normal.
Diagnosis
Acute Sigmoid diverticulitis with pericolonic abscess surrounded by inflammatory fat stranding.
